Today I'm going to take my own advice. Actually, I'm going to follow the weekly inspiration that I just posted on my website: Allow yourself to rest. Your soul speaks to you in the quiet moments in between your thoughts.
Granted I may not believe in the traditional idea of a "soul" but I do know that when I am truly quiet and get my monkey mind to shut up I have the opportunity to hear a voice within that affirms, comforts, heals, and inspires. The problem is that I just don't do that often enough. Maybe you don't either and maybe we're not wired that way. But more likely, I think the problem is quite simply that we live in a consistently and constantly plugged in world of instant gratification, often disingenuous connection, and the expectation to "do" rather than "be".
Today I'm going to unplug and just "be" for a few moments. I will listen for that small still voice of wisdom. I hope you'll consider doing the same.
I had hoped to post once a week, and did for a short time. Unfortunately, my doctorate research and other obligations have taken priority over the blog. BUT, I will return soon! Some postings may be articles I've written for publication, messages I've delivered in congregational settings, or excerpts from papers written in my doctoral classes.
